Since before I can even remember, “bad periods” have always been a problem of mine.

I remember going to the doctors throughout my adolescent years and complaining of pains that felt like period cramps, even when I didn’t have my period. I would often be taking time off school and work throughout the month, due to being bed ridden.

I knew this wasn’t normal, so I started going to the doctors more and more – begging for help. It wasn’t until a doctor turned to me and asked, “Are you sure you don’t just want a day off school?” that I thought maybe it was all in my head.

I was told time after time that it was “just my period” or that “maybe I’m not going to the toilet enough”.
